Shujaat asks Elahi to rejoin PML-Q


LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League -Quaid-i-Azam (PML-Q) chief Chaudhry Shujat Hussain has asked Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf (PTI) President Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi to re-join his former party to come out of the woods.

During a meeting with Shujat on Sunday at the Lahore Jail camp,  Elahi expressed his interest to re-join the PML-Q.

The PML-Q chief accompanied by Hussain’s sons, Chaudhry Saalik and Chaudhry Wajahat, inquired about the health of Elahi and advised him to focus on his health.

According to the sources, during the meeting, both the leaders also exchanged views on the curent political situation in the country.

According to the sources, Elahi told Shujat that his son Moonis Elahi would decide about their political future.

Meanwhile, prior to the meeting, a medical team comprising Dr Amir Hussain Bandesha and Dr Abdul Basit examined Elahi, who has been incarcerating in jail after he was arrested from his residence by the Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) on June 1 on charges of corruption in development projects.

After his arrest, the Lahore High Court (LHC) granted bail to Elahi before he was rearrested by ACE in another alleged corruption case registered against him in Gujranwala.

On June 3, the LHC again granted him bail in corruption cases but he was detained in a case pertaining to unlawful recruitments in the Punjab Assembly.

Following his arrest, the National Accountability Bureau on June 9 launched another inquiry against  Elahi for alleged embezzlement in the development projects in Mandi Bahayuddin and Gujrat..

On June 20, the Federal Investigation Agency booked Elahi, his son Moonis and several others on charges of money laundering.

The anti-mony laudering court sent Elahi on a 14-day judicial remand.
