PESHAWAR: “Swabi rally proved to be a public referendum against the fake government,” said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s Spokesperson Barrister Saif. He said, “People across the country made it clear that the public mandate was robbed on February 8.”
He was speaking in relation to the protest rally organised by the PTI yesterday in Swabi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The opposition party initially planned to hold the protest in Lahore at Minar-e-Pakistan, but later decided to gather in Swabi.
Barrister Saif said, “Last night proved to be extremely heavy for Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and the entire PML-N [Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz].”
He said that even in Punjab, where the PML-N is in power, people came out in large numbers despite all the “high-handed tactics”. He alleged that the PTI workers are being rounded up in Punjab for the past one week, on the orders of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
Despite this, he said, people are steadfastly standing with PTI founder and former chairman Imran Khan. “The end of the fake government will be ensured with the power of the people,” Barrister Saif said.
PTI WORKERS’ PERFORMANCE REPORT SOUGHT
PTI’s newly appointed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Junaid Akbar also spoke about the Swabi rally saying, “I am grateful to everyone for the great rally.”
He has also sought report from PTI’s district presidents, general secretaries and tehsil nazims about the number of people they had brought to the rally. “All officials should share the report on social media within three days,” Akbar said, adding that “A big rally was held, but I will bring a system of reward and punishment in the party.”
“I will give these reports to Imran Khan. No one will be treated unfairly in the party,” Junaid Akbar said.
