ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-(PTI) Insaf leader Zain Mehmood Qureshi has claimed that the party’s strategy to deal with emergency situations turned out to be effective in countering the government’s legislative moves.
Barrister Gohar – who played a key role in the plan according to Qureshi – decided to take action independently and was subsequently arrested within the premises of Parliament.
Qureshi revealed that Barrister Gohar had instructed party members to stay inside Parliament in order to monitor any potential legislation. “If they bring legislation tomorrow, someone needs to be inside the parliament to count the numbers,” Qureshi quoted Gohar.
Qureshi stated that there was concern about a possible bill involving a judicial package being presented in the National Assembly. He also expressed fears that the ruling government might prevent PTI members from attending the session.
“They don’t have the numbers. They are 12 votes short, with 210 votes,” Qureshi claimed. He added that JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rahman had refused to support the government, further weakening their position. He went on to accuse the government of manipulating numbers, stating, “This is a government that came into being on form 47s”.
Qureshi and three other PTI members remained in Parliament to monitor the proceedings. He remarked that despite facing multiple terrorism charges, the party is not afraid and would continue with its plan.
During a parliamentary party meeting, a seven-member committee was established, chaired by Barrister Gohar. The committee included prominent figures such as Omar Ayub, Zartaj Gul, Zain Qureshi, Hamid Raza, and Sheikh Waqas Akram. Qureshi noted that the committee’s role was to check the government’s voting numbers in the parliament and preventing them from passing legislation.
The decision was made for only these seven members to attend Parliament, while other party members were instructed to stay away.
