PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi addressed the media with sharp criticism directed towards the leadership of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). He called upon the top brass of the PTI to shoulder their responsibilities, particularly in light of the deteriorating law and order situation in the province.
“When our province was facing a worsening law and order crisis, there was a noticeable lack of attention,” said Kundi.

Speaking on speeches made during yesterday’s PTI rally, the governor said that the use of undemocratic means, as seen in recent political movements, is detrimental to the country’s political landscape. “My duty is to protect the constitution and the law, and I will continue to do so,” he said, stressing that undemocratic language and actions during PTI rallies targeted key institutions of the state.
Kundi took direct aim at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, stating that a leader unable to maintain the rule of law in his own province is either unfit for office or complicit with extremist elements. “The chief minister must immediately call for a vote of confidence in the provincial assembly,” he urged, underscoring the need for accountability.
He expressed concern over Gandapur’s recent behaviour, saying, “Ali Amin Gandapur disregarded Pakhtun traditions yesterday.” Highlighting the importance of respecting women in Pashtun culture, Kundi criticised the treatment of women at the event. He also accused Gandapur of instigating unrest by referencing the controversial events of May 9.
Governor Kundi said that Gandapur issued a two-week ultimatum and criticised his administration for overstepping its limits, noting that the constitution prohibits both the prime minister and chief minister from having more than five advisers. “I rejected the summary for a sixth adviser,” Kundi revealed.
He went on to comment on the situation in Gandapur’s own village, suggesting that either there is no writ of law there, or Gandapur is unwilling to maintain it due to affiliations with extremists.

Touching on the events of May 9, Governor Kundi labelled the actions of that day as something “not even an enemy of the country” would commit. He called for those responsible to face severe punishment.
He said that “The founder of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) was judicially murdered but the party neither set things on fire nor destroyed the statues of martyrs”. He added, “PPP remains a staunch defender of democratic values.”
