Sindh government launches Sindh Solar Energy Project with World Bank support

HYDERABAD. January 23 (HO). In a significant move to provide affordable electricity to the people of Sindh, the provincial government has launched the Sindh Solar Energy Project (SSEP) with the support of the World Bank. The project aims to provide solar systems to 2 lac families, using fewer units to make electricity more affordable. In second phase the 5 lac more families will be provided solar system kits by the Government of Sindh.
Provincial Minister for Energy and Planning and Development Syed Nasir Hussain Shah held a meeting in Shehbaz Hall Shehbaz Building Hyderabad and announced the launch of the project, stating that it is a fulfillment of the promise made by Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in the election manifesto. The project includes more than seven components, which will be completed over time.
Under the project, the Sindh government will also start a solar system loan for families who use more units. The provincial minister said that the houses being constructed with the support of the World Bank after the floods and rains will also include a solar system kit.
Nasir Hussain Shah Said that, the Sindh government will initially provide the Sindh Solar System Home Kits to about 2 lac houses, which includes a solar plate, three bulbs, a fan, and a battery. A challan of only 6,000 rupees will be collected for the solar home kit, after which it will be delivered to the deserving people at their homes.
The solar system home kits will be given to families who are eligible under the Benazir Income Support Program. He added. He further highlighted that the distribution of the kits will be overseen by a committee headed by the UC Chairman at the Union Council level and a committee comprising the Deputy Commissioner, Party President, UC Chairman, and NGO officers at the district level.
The provincial minister has selected Former Senator Aajiz Dhamrah as the focal person for the Hyderabad division regarding the solar project. The World Bank is also running a project to construct 2.1 million houses for flood victims in Sindh, which will be monitored by party leaders and workers to ensure timely completion.
The Sindh Solar Energy Project is a significant step towards providing affordable electricity to the people of Sindh, and it is expected to benefit seven lac families across the province.

The project will provide solar systems to off-grid areas, including deserts and mountains, and will also support the construction of 2.1 million houses for flood victims. According to the minister, 3.5 lakh houses have already been built, with work underway on an additional 8 lakh houses. A survey has also been conducted to identify areas for further construction.
The project is being implemented with the support of the World Bank and NGOs. The minister stated that a committee will be notified at the district level to ensure the fair distribution of solar energy kits. A mobile application will also be launched to collect data on the distribution of solar home kits and improve the delivery process.
Commissioner Hyderabad Bilal Ahmed Memon, who was present at the meeting, assured that a committee will be notified to work efficiently ensure the fair distribution of solar energy kits. Party leaders and representatives of Hands NGOs also attended the meeting and suggested ways to make the construction process more fair and efficient.
MNA Rafique Jamali, MPA Ismail Rahu, MPA Junior Malik Sikanadar, Tanzeela Qambrani, Kulsoon Chandio, Mukesh Kumar Chawla, Commissioner Hyderabad, Deputy Commissioners of all districts of Hyderabad division, Party district presidents, UC Chairmans and workers participated in meeting.
