ACBS Asian Snooker Championship 2024: Pakistan bags silver

RIYADH: Pakistan bagged a silver medal at the ACBS Asian Snooker Championship 2024 finals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia after an impressive campaign.
The team consisted of Asjad Iqbal and Awais Munir, who put up a strong front despite their loss to Thailand in the final.

Thailand’s team consisting of Kritsanut Lertsattayathorn, Dechawat Poomjaeng, and Yuttapop Pakpoj won with a 3-0 score against their opponents. Asjad Iqbal faced difficulties in the first singles match of the final, while Awais Munir put up a strong fight but made a critical mistake that resulted in him losing the frame.
Despite their efforts in the doubles, Pakistan settled for the silver medal.
In the semifinals, Pakistan overcame early challenges against Hong Kong. Asjad Iqbal lost the first singles match, but Awais Munir’s victory leveled the score and boosted Pakistan’s chances of advancing.
The ACBS Asian Snooker Championship is considered Asia’s top non-professional snooker tournament. It is officially sanctioned by the Asian Confederation of Billiard Sports since its inception in 1984.
Over the years, the ACBS Asian Snooker Championship has crowned champions from nations such as Thailand, India, and Pakistan, with Thailand leading the tally with 17 gold medals. The championship encompasses both men’s and women’s competitions held across various venues in Asia.

Victors in this tournament often earn qualification for the Professional Snooker Tour. In addition to snooker, the championship also features disciplines like English Billiards and the Asian Tour 10 RED.
