MUMBAI: Afghanistan cricket team has reached India to participate in the ICC World Cup 2023.

The Afghanistan team will play its first warm-up match against South Africa on Sept 29 (Friday). Pictures of the cricket team players who landed in India have also been shared by the Afghanistan Cricket Board on its X (formerly known as Twitter) account.

It hasn’t been easy for Afghanistan to prepare for the ODI World Cup 2023, but if its star players can deliver, the Asian team can generate some excitement in the upcoming weeks. It is difficult to dismiss Afghanistan’s participation in the tournament despite their dismal record entering the World Cup. Any team at the World Cup might end up losing because of the exceptional talent they possess.

Over the past several months, their overall performance has gotten better. They have consistently generated competitive totals and have proven capable of competing against stronger teams.

After notching up 300/5 at Hambantota in August, they came close to defeating Pakistan and nearly knocking Sri Lanka out from the Asia Cup in Lahore. They have defeated Ireland, the Netherlands, Zimbabwe, and Bangladesh in ODI series since the outbreak. They also shared a series of ODIs with Sri Lanka.

Fazalhaz Farooqi as well as Naveen-ul-Haq have demonstrated that they are quick learners despite the speed attack still being in its infancy. They can be a useful ally for the Afghan tweakers.

Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Mohammed Nabi, as well as Noor Ahmad are Afghanistan’s spinners, and they are the team’s biggest asset in the World Cup. This trio can make the difference in the circumstances in India because they have taken over 400 ODI wickets between them.

Each player has their own distinctive flair, and they have all outwitted some of the finest batters in the world.  The batting prowess of Rashid and Nabi is also a benefit to the team as they can chip in lower down the order.
