CHATTOGRAM: Zimbabwe took seven wickets on day 2, but a fantastic knock from Bangladesh’s Shadman Islam helped the Tigers to lead by 64 runs by the end of play.
Zimbabwe’s first innings
Taijul Islam ended Zimbabwe’s first innings in the first session, dismissing Blessing Muzarabani, who was caught behind, in the 91st over. It was Islam’s sixth wicket of the game.
On day one, he dismantled Zimbabwe’s batting line-up, beginning with the dismissal of Ben Curran. He would go on to dismiss Wessly Madhevere in similar fashion in the 79th over. Not long after, Islam sent off Wellington Masakadza via lbw, and bowled Richard Ngarava for a golden duck on consecutive deliveries in the 81st. Nick Welch was bowled by Islam in the 85th, leaving Zimbabwe in the dire position they found themselves in this morning.
Welch and Sean Williams were the star duo for Zimbabwe in their first innings, making a partnership of 90 runs off 230 deliveries. Individually, Welch made 54 and Williams made 67. Zimbabwe were all out for 227 after 90.1 overs.

Bangladesh’s first innings
Shadman Islam took it upon himself to spearhead Bangladesh’s batting offensive, scoring 120 runs off 181 deliveries, hitting 16 fours and one six along the way. It was the second test ton of Shadman’s career and his highest score in the format to date. He met his end in the 55th over via lbw on a delivery from Brian Bennett.
Mushfiqur Rahim made the next highest score of 40 off 59, before he was run out in the 77th over on a failed and unnecessary single attempt. Anamul Haque and Mominul Haque contributed 39 and 33 respectfully, while skipper Nahmul Hossain Shanto had 23.
Zimbabwe’s Vincent Masekesa had the most dismissals with three, including Shanto’s wicket, an incredible dismissal of Jaker Ali in which Masekesa caught his own delivery, and the last dismissal of the day, which saw Nayeem Hasan caught out after a thick outside edge sent the ball to second slip.
Bennett, Masakadza, and Muzarabani each had one.
Bangladesh stand at 291 for seven at the end of day 2. They lead by 64 runs after 87 overs.
