GALLE: Bangaldsh won the toss on Tuesday and chose to bat first against Sri Lanka in the first test of the two-match series. However, the Tigers’ top order struggled, as Bangladesh lost three wickets before lunch.
Anamul Haque fell first for a duck on the tenth delivery he faced. Haque was caught behind off a delivery from Asitha Fernando that took the edge of the bat as the Bangladeshi batter attempted to defend.
Not long after, Tharindu Rathnayake took his maiden test wicket in his first ever game in the format, dismissing Shadman Islam on the last ball of the 15th over. The Sri Lankan bowlers’ delivery spun away just enough to take the edge of Islam’s bat before ending up in the hands of Lions’ skipper Dhananjaya de Silva at slip.

Rathnayake took his second wicket of the match on his very next delivery in the 17th over, dismissing Mominul Haque who scored 29 off 33. It was a similar dismissal to that of Islam, as Dhananjaya took the catch once again at slip after Haque’s attempt at a cut went awry.
Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto is on the field now alongside Mushfiqur Rahim, and have scored 25 and 20 runs respectively.
Bangladesh stand at 90 for three after 28 overs.
