GALLE: Bangladesh neared 400 runs as they broke for lunch on day 2 in the first test against Sri Lanka, only losing one wicket in Tuesday’s first session. However, it was the big one, as Najmul Hossain Shanto departed the field after putting up an incredible knock.
Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim’s 264 run partnership revived the Tiger’s after a disappointing performance by their top order, who were all retired by the 17th over on Day 1. The Tiger’s skipper scored 148 runs off 279 deliveries himself, hitting 15 fours and one six along the way.

Sri Lanka finally had their breakthrough seven overs into Day 2, as Shanto was caught out by Angelo Mathews at mid-off on a delivery from Asitha Fernando, falling just two runs short of his 150. Litton Das then joined Rahim on the pitch, beginning yet another great partnership.
Together they scored 74 off 125, with the heavy lifting coming from Litton who is just seven runs short of a half century. Rahim is nearing another milestone himself, currently just nine runs shy of 150. The 38-year-old 20 year veteran showed once again why he is one of the best Bangladesh has to offer.
Bangladesh currently stand at 383 for 4 after 117 overs. Only one wicket was taken in the 27 overs that were bowled in the morning session, and Bangladesh added 91 runs.
