SYDNEY: Former Australian all-rounder Brad Hogg has come under fire for posting a video mocking Pakistan’s ODI captain Mohammad Rizwan’s English during the Champions Trophy.
Social media users criticized Hogg for what they called a ‘distasteful’ act.
A viral video shows Hogg conducting a mock interview with a content creator impersonating Rizwan, seemingly making fun of his English-speaking skills. The clip has drawn widespread condemnation online.
In the video, Hogg asks the impersonator, “What do you think about Virat Kohli?” The impersonator responds, “I and Virat are alike. He drinks water, I drink water. He eats food, I eat food. We are both the same; there is no difference.”
AAMER JAMAL DEFENDS RIZWAN
Pakistani cricketer Aamer Jamal came to Rizwan’s defense, expressing disappointment over Hogg’s actions. In a tweet, he called the video “shameful” and reminded that English is Rizwan’s third language.
“I just watched a video circulating on Twitter and other social media. It is a very shameful act from Brad Hogg, who calls himself an international cricketer, making fun of Rizwan’s English, which is his third language, not even his second,” Jamal wrote.
He also sarcastically suggested that Hogg should consider becoming a TikToker instead.
SOCIAL MEDIA OUTRAGE
Fans and analysts were quick to condemn Hogg. One user pointed out, “It’s absurd for an ex-Australian cricketer to mock Rizwan’s English when his native language is Pashto.”
English is Rizwan’s third language. How many languages can Hogg speak? I could go on stoop to the Aussies sandpaper level, but I have dignity.

Wrong. U can’t shame someone publicly. Not done in right spirit
Another commented, “Absolutely distasteful from Brad Hogg. Used to think he was a decent bloke, guess not.”

Rizwan is good at what he is supposed to be good at. The wicketkeeping and batting. It is improper to insult him this way.

This is poor coming from someone like Brad Hogg.
A meme page remarked, “The whole Australian community should now be ashamed of Brad Hogg. What a disgrace!”
Several users defended Rizwan, emphasizing that cricketers should be judged for their on-field performances, not their language skills.
“Players are at that level for their cricketing skills, not their ability to speak English,” one user tweeted.
