Caitlin Clark makes history, echoes legend Michael Jordan

INDIANAPOLIS: Basketball star Caitlin Clark made headlines in the world of basketball by surpassing even basketball legend Michael Jordan on Tuesday.

The basketball athlete was able to land two groundbreaking endorsement agreements, surpassing even the basketball icon. Wilson Sporting Goods, the official basketball supplier of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) signed Clark to a multiyear deal for her own “basketball collections.”

Wilson’s announcement revealed that the basketball player’s collections will honour her legacy in the sport. She will actively engage in testing, advising, and providing feedback on various basketball products, alongside serving as a brand ambassador.

Clark will also have the opportunity to creatively direct her debut own basketball line. It is set to launch later this year.

Clark has become the first female athlete to receive such recognition from Wilson. Michael Jordan similarly landed similar deal for his collections in the 1980s.

The basketball player expressed her excitement in a press release. She stating that “Wilson has been with me across some of the most important moments in my career so far. I couldn’t be more excited to continue driving basketball forward alongside them.”

The inaugural collection will feature gold-colored basketballs with Clark’s image and signature. It can be found on Wilson’s official website.

Besides her deal with Wilson deal, Clark is reportedly on the brink of signing with another giant sports company. Nike is reportedly set to design her own line of shoes.

Clark’s rise in the WNBA caught the attention of people worldwide, with her debut for the Indiana Fever drawing an average of 2.1 million viewers. Her endorsement agreements with Wilson and potentially Nike hint at her becoming one of the most popular female athletes across all sports.

Clark’s accomplishments, however, extend beyond the court. She recently became the all-time leading scorer in National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) basketball while playing for the University of Iowa.
