CM Punk’s AEW journey comes to an end

CM Punk

FLORIDA: The professional tenure of popular wrestler CM Punk with All Elite Wrestling (AEW) has come to an end as the wrestling promotion has terminated its employment agreement with the wrestler.

According to international media, the news was announced on Saturday, just one day ahead of AEW’s All Out pay-per-view event in Chicago, Punk’s hometown.

The termination followed an internal investigation stemming from a backstage altercation that occurred during last week’s All In pay-per-view, where Punk was involved in a physical confrontation with Jack Perry. Punk’s frustration had been growing over the past year within AEW.

CM Punk made a highly anticipated debut in AEW in August 2021, captivating audiences with his in-ring strength despite a nearly seven-year absence from professional wrestling. However, his time in AEW was marred by various conflicts with fellow roster members.

However, the lowest point of Punk’s AEW journey occurred a year ago during the All Out post-show press conference when he criticised several roster members, most notably AEW Executive Vice Presidents Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks, and engaged in a locker room altercation.

Meanwhile, the tensions escalated further upon his return from injury in June. The breaking point transpired just before All In this past Sunday when Punk expressed his discontent with the company, including owner Tony Khan.

At the age of 44, Punk remains a valuable asset for any wrestling promotion. While speculation about a return to World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) is immediate, it may make more sense for Punk to continue his career in Japan. However, Punk’s wrestling future cannot be predicted at this point especially when he has not shared his side of the story.
