Global Super League 2024: Rain delays Qalandars-Riders match


The Global Super League 2024 clash between the Lahore Qalandars and Rangpur Riders was delayed due to rain.

The Rangpur Riders won the toss and opted to bat first. So far, the riders accumulated 85 runs for 1 wickets in 9 overs.

The Rangpur Ruders have had a modest start, with notable performances from batters, as Steven Taylor remains at the crease, unbeaten with 32 runs from 27 balls, including 4 boundaries and a six.

The only dismissal so was Soumya Sarkar, who was bowled by Mirza Baig for 22 runs.

Meanwhile, the Lahore Qalandars’ bowling left a lot to be desired. Asif Afridi bowled 2 overs while conceding 19 runs and without claiming a single wicket.

Similarly, Tabraiz Shamsi bowled 2 overs, yielded only 10 runs but without claiming a single wicket, either.

The Lahore Qalandars need to step up their pressure on the Rangpur Riders’ batters to reign them in.

The match is currently facing a delay due to rain, with the fans eagerly expecting the resumption of the match.

Global Super League 2024

The Global Super League 2024 is the inaugural edition of the international club cricket tournament. It was orgnaised by Cricket West Indies.

It started on November 26 till December 6 (today), featuring five clubs from different countries competing in a total of 11 matches at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.

The participating teams include clubs from Australia, Bangladesh, England, Pakistan and the West Indies. Each club was selected from the domestic competitions: the Twenty20 Big Bash, Bangladesh Premiere League, the Caribbean Premiere League, T20 Blast, and the Pakistan Super League.

The competition follows a “round-robin structure”, where each team faced every other team once, culminating in a total of ten matches.

The top two teams based on their points table then progressed t o the final match, with a total prize pool of $1 million at stake.

Teams

The five teams participating include:

  1. Guyana Amazon Warriors from the domestic Caribbean Premiere League. Their head coach is Prasanna Agoram from India and captain is Imran Tahir from South Africa.
  • The Hampshire Hawks qualified for the tournament after winning the domestic league: Vitality Blast. Their head coach is South African, Adrian Birrel, and captain Chris Wood of England.
  • Lahore Qalandars from Pakistan with Darren Gough from England as the head coach and Carlos Brathwaite from West Indies serving as the captain.
  • Rangpur Riders club qualified from the domestic league, Bangladesh Premiere League. South African, Mickey Arthur, is serving as their head coach while the team is being captained by Nurul Hasan from Bangladesh.
  • The fifth club is Victoria from domestic league: Sheffield Shield. Australian Chris Rogers is the current head coach,  with Corey Anderson leading the team.

Points Table

Currently, Victoria is leading with 6 points, having secured 3 wins out of 4 matches.

The Guyana Amazon Warriors and Lahore Qalanders are in contention for the second place, with the latter looking to improve  its standing.
