India dominate Bangladesh to win in record breaking performance

India

KANPUR: India wiped out Bangladesh only 146 runs on Tuesday morning, leaving themselves with an easy 95 run target.

After the record-breaking performance India put on in the batting side on Monday, their bowlers put on an equally swift and oppressive performance.

BANGLADESH’S DISASTROUS SECOND INNINGS

Starting the day with Bangladesh at 26 for 2, India took another wicket only a couple overs into play. Bangladesh’s Mominul Haque was caught out after a delivery from Ravichandran Ashwin baited the Bangladesh batter into attempting a sweep. The ball hit the upper edge and landed in Kannaur Lokesh Rahul’s hands.

Haque had made a century in Bangladesh’s first innings, so it was a welcome dismissal to start day 5. Bangladesh were able to steady their play as they neared a hundred before disaster struck again. Ravindra Jadeja bowled out Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto with his scond delivery fo the day.

Jadeja became the second-quciket to reach 300 wickets and 3000 runs in the test format, after he took his one and only wicket in Bangladesh’s first innings.

At the end of the over Shadman Islam had made a half century, and four balls into the next over, he was out. Shadman was overly eager, reaching for a wide delivery that hit the outside edge and flew to Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Bangladesh were on a downward spiral, losing another wicket in the very next over as Litton Das was caught out by keeper Rishabh Pant off a ball from Jadeja. Another wicket fell soon after after Shakib Al Hasan hit the ball right back to Jadeja, making it the third wicket for the Indian bowler inside three overs.

Bangladesh had lost four wickets in a span that saw them only make three runs. The eight wicket fell in the 37th over, after Bangladesh had strung together a few fours to take their score up to 118. Mehidy Hasan Miraz edged the ball off a delivery from Jasprit Bumrah, leading to a diving catch by Pant to dismiss the Bangladeshi batter.

Bumrah would take two more wickets to end Bangladesh’s innings, getting Taikul Islam due to an LBW in the 41st over, and bowling Mushfique Rahim in the 47th.

INDIA’S SECOND INNINGS

India make quick work on the batting side. Bangladesh struck fast, in only the third over, taking out Rohit Sharma after hard struck ball was caught by Mahmud off a delivery from Miraz. Miraz took another wicket in the fifth over, after a failed review on an LBW forced Shubman Gill off the field.

Despite the two early wickets, there was no stopping India as they hit boundary after boundary. Another wicket fell in the 16th over when Jaiswal was caught out by Hasan off a delivery from Islam, but it was all for naught, as it was much too little, much too late.

India would win the game by 7 wickets in the next two overs.

INDIA’S RECORD BREAKING FIRST INNINGS

It was a swift end to what was a record breaking performance for the side. In their first Innings, it only took India three overs to make fifty runs, the fastest ever by a team in mens test. India then broke their own record for the fastest team hundred in mens test. Not yet satisfied, they then made the fastest ever team 200 in mens tests, taking the title away from Australia.
