KUALA LUMPUR: After limiting Pakistan to a woeful total of 67, India reached the required total within eight overs on Sunday, winning their opening match of the Under-19 Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2024 by nine wickets.
The women in green struggled in their opening match against India, with only two batsmen making it to double digits. Komal Khan had the highest score making 24 runs off 32 deliveries before Mithila Vinod dismissed her with an lbw. Fatima Khan was the only other player to make it to double digitals, scoring 11 runs off 18 deliveries. She was dismissed by Parunika Sisodia.
Sonam Yadav was India’s star bowler, as she took four wickets in the four overs she bowled. She dismissed Maham Anees, Ravail Farhan, Areesha Ansari, and Pakistan skipper Zoofishan Ayyaz on a delivery that she bowled and caught. In 20 overs, Pakistan only managed to score 67 runs, a total that India quickly made.

It took less than eight overs for Pakistan’s arch rivals to win the match. After an early scare courtesy of Fatima Khan who sent off Indian opener Gongadi Trisha for a duck on a dlevieryu that she bowled and caught, G Kamilini took over the match. The Indian wicket keeper had a fantastic knock, during which she hit four fours and three sixes. She ended the match just six runs off a half century, with a score of 44 off 29 deliveries. Sanika Chalke scored 19 runs as well to help bring the win home.
India now stand at the top of Group A, which includes Pakistan and Nepal, with two points. Pakistan will play their second game today (Monday) against Nepal. Sri Lanka currently stands at the top of Group B with two points, Malaysia at second with one loss, and Bangladesh who have yet to play their first game.
