NEW DELHI: Former Indian Premier League (IPL) champion team Mumbai Indians’ ex-cricketer Shivalik Sharma has been arrested in a rape case.
According to Indian media, the 26-year-old was taken into custody by Rajasthan Police and presented before a court, which sent him into judicial custody.
A woman has accused Sharma of establishing a physical relationship under the false promise of marriage.
The two reportedly met two years ago in Vadodara and stayed in touch over the phone.
Shivalik was signed by Mumbai Indians in the previous IPL season for ₹2 million but did not play in any matches. He was later released before the mega auction.
Shivalik has also played first-class cricket alongside former cricketers Hardik and Krunal Pandya.
