Islamabad United reigns supreme, jumps to second place with victory over Karachi Kings


Islamabad United defeated Karachi Kings by five wickets

RAWALPINDI: In a thrilling encounter, Islamabad United secured a decisive victory over Karachi Kings with five wickets to spare in the latest iteration of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) on Thursday.

The spectators at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium were treated to a spectacular clash between teams representing the country’s capital and its largest city.

Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, Islamabad United’s decision proved fruitful as they successfully restricted Karachi Kings to a modest total. The Kings set a target of 150 runs, losing seven wickets in their allotted twenty overs.

Kieron Pollard emerged as the top scorer for Karachi Kings, contributing 39 runs from 28 balls. James Vince and Tim Seifert offered valuable support with 29 (off 27 balls) and 26 runs (off 19 balls) respectively.

The bowlers from Islamabad United easily limited the Karachi Kings’ batting lineup. Tymal Mills spearheaded the bowling attack, claiming three crucial wickets despite conceding 34 runs in his four overs.

Meanwhile, Faheem Ashraf showcased his bowling expertise, securing two wickets while conceding only 16 runs in his spell. Imad Wasim also made a notable contribution, grabbing a wicket and conceding just 18 runs in four overs.

Chasing the target, Islamabad United achieved the target comfortably with eight balls and five wickets to spare, reaching the required total in just 18 overs.

Shadab Khan led the charge with a brisk 34 runs from 26 balls, supported by Salman Ali Agha who contributed 33 runs off 30 balls. Similarly, Haider Ali’s scored an aggressive 26 runs from 16 deliveries.

Despite Karachi Kings’ efforts with the ball, including Mir Hamza’s three-wicket haul conceding 41 runs in four overs, and contributions from Blessing Muzarabani and Zahid Mahmood, who each claimed a wicket, United’s batsmen remained resolute in their pursuit of victory.

Faheem Ashraf’s stellar all-round performance earned him the coveted Player of the Match award. He displayed an impressive performance with not only securing two wickets in four overs while conceding just 16 runs, but scoring also twelve runs off eight balls.

With this victory, Islamabad United asserted its dominance in the PSL by jumping to the second sport with over nine points, ahead of Quetta Gladiators and Peshwar Zalmi.

Meanwhile, Karachi Kings needs to regroup and bounce back stronger in the upcoming fixtures due to having only six points.

The next match in the ninth fixture of the PSL is between Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators on Friday (today) at 7 pm.
