Recap: Pakistan U19 beat India behind Shahzaib Khan’s 159

DUBAI: Shahzaib Khan led Pakistan to a score of 281 against India on Saturday, as the skipper made an incredible 159 runs, before the bowlers in green brought an end to India’s hopes of victory. Pakistan won by 44 runs, as India scored 237 before their last wicket fell in the 47th over.
PAKISTAN’S INNINGS
Shahzaib was the star of the show, as he put on an outstanding batting performance. The Pakistan skipper brought up his half century in the 22nd over, as he hit four sixes and one four on his way to the milestone. Together with Usman Khan, the two made an incredible partnership of 160 runs. Later, the skipper made a century in the 37th over, adding to an already stunning performance. He was the last wicket to fall for Pakistan and was sent off in the last over. Shahzaib ended with a fantastic score of 159 runs
Usman had a great performance as well, scoring a half century of his own. The 16-year-old scored 60 runs off 94 deliveries, hitting six fours along the way before his innings came to an end in the 31st over. Usman tried to send the ball over the fence on a delivery from Ayush Mhtare, but fell short as Nikhil Kumar at deep point took the catch. He was sent off with a score of 60 runs off 94 deliveries.
Haroon Arshad replaced him, however he didn’t stay long as a sweep attempt gone awry popped the ball up high. India almost squandered the opportunity, as the ball bounced off one fielders hands. But, Yudhajit Guha was close enough to grab the rebound, giving Mhtare his second wicket of the day.

India’s Samarth Nagaraj got two wickets back to back in the 44th over, beginning Muhammad Riazullah who came in to replace Haroon. Riazullah scored 27 runs off the 33 deliveries he faced, before he tried to hit a ramp shot over the wicket-keeper, but instead only nicked the ball before it was caught by Harvansh Pangalia. Farhan Yousaf replaced him and was sent off for a duck on the first ball he faced as the delivery took an edge on a failed attempted to play a shot through cover, leading to another easy catch for Pangalia.
Soon after Kiran Chormale would have his first wicket, as Faham ul-Haq launched ball to deep extra cover where Kumar took the catch. Yudhajit Guha would take a wicket as well in the penultimate over, dismissing Saad Baig who swung big, but only brushed his bat against the ball before Pangalia took yet another catch.
Pakistan scored 281 runs in 50 overs, losing seven wickets along the way.
INDIA’S INNINGS
Pakistan bowlers carried on the momentum created by their batters, beginning with the dismissals of India’s two openers, Ayush Mhatre and Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who took to the field with the formidable target of 282 weighing them down.

Ayush got off to a fantastic start, scoring 20 runs by hitting five fours in the first three overs. However, the Indian opener would be dismissed in the fourth over, on a delivery from Abdul Subhan that took an edge before making its way to the wicket-keeper Saad Baig. Ali Raza would dismiss India’s other opener, Vaibhav, on the first ball of the next over. Baig would get another catch as Raza’s delivery found the edge of Vaibhav’s bat.
Faham-ul-Haq got his first wicket in the 12th over, as he dismissed C Andre Siddarth, who swung for the fences, but only got the toe end of the bat tot he ball. There wasn’t enough distance on his shot, allowing Muhammad Riazullah at deep extra cover to take the catch. India’s skipper, Mohamed Amaan was the next to fall. He was dismissed in the 21st over after hitting a delivery from Usman towards long off, where the substitute fielder Ahmed Hussain took the catch.
Nikhil Kumar and Kiran Chormale did their best to bring some stability to India’s innings, as the two put on a partnership of 53 runs. But, Faham would end the partnership in the 31st over, on a delivery that found the inner edge of Chormale’s bat before ricocheting onto the stumps.
Kumar would carry on, and would bring up his half century in the 33rd over. But soon after, in the 35th, he would be stumped by Baig after Kumar charged down the pitch to meet a delivery from Naveed Ahmed Khan that spun past him. Kumar scored the most runs for India with 67 runs made off 77 deliveries.

Ali Raza would take two back to back wickets in the 39th over, beginning with Harvash Pangalia. The delivery from Raza would take an outside edge before Baig took the catch. Raza’s third wicket of the game by dismissing Samarth Ngarava for a duck on the first ball he faced, with a little help from Haroon, who took the catch. Hardik Raj would be dismissed in the next over, giving Abdul Subhan is second wicket and putting Pakistan one wicket away from claiming victory. Hardik punched the ball towards mid-on, where Hussain was lining himself up for the catch.
Mohamed Enaan was run out on the first ball of the 48th over, ending the match with India sill needing 45 more runs.
