LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi announced on Tuesday that former New Zealand cricketer and coach Mike Hesson has been appointed as Pakistan’s white ball coach, taking over from Aqib Javed.

Javed will now takeover as the Director of High Performance as Hesson’s takes over as coach of two of the three formats. “Together, they will play a pivotal role in the evolution and success of Pakistan Cricket,” Naqvi wrote on Twitter.

In an official press release, the PC stated that numerous applications were evaluated, but they ultimately landed on Hesson. The Kiwi has previously served as the head coach of both his own national team as well as Kenya. Currently, he serves as the head coach for the defending champions of the PSL, Islamabad United.

The appointment will be effective from May 26. Pakistan’s five match T20I series against Bangladesh is set to kick off on May 25. However, as the Pakistan Super League (PSL) final is also scheduled for the same day, the schedule for the T20I series may be changed. The series is currently scheduled to be held between May 25 and June 3.

Hesson is now the third foreign coach that Pakistan has had in the past year, with Jason Gillespie and Gary Kristen, who both left the team after disputes with the PBC.
