DUBAI: Pakistan U19 delivered a commanding performance on Wednesday, defeating Japan U19 by 180 runs in their ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup 2024 encounter, ensuring an unbeaten record in Group A.
Opting to bat first, Pakistan set a competitive total of 243/6. Muhammad Riazullah anchored the innings with an unbeaten 66, hitting four fours and one six along the way. He was supported by valuable knocks from Shahzaib Khan (45) and Faham-ul-Haq (34). Shahzaib Khan, who normally opens, came in at six and was dismissed just five runs short of a half century. Japan’s Timothy Moore bowled the ball and took the catch that brought an end to dominant streak of centuries, which the 19 year old had made in back to back games.

In response, Japan U19 struggled against Pakistan’s disciplined bowling attack and were bowled out for just 63 runs. Mohammad Huzaifa was the standout performer, taking five wickets beginning with Nihar Parmer in the 21st over. Parmer scored the highest total for Japan with 25 runs before he was bowled by the Pakistani spinner. After dismissing Timopthy Moore in the 25th, Huzaifa would take back to back wickets in the 27th. The 15 year old would end the match in the 29th over, by bowling Kai Wall.
But before Huzaifa ensured Pakistan’s place in the semi-finals, Ahmed Hussain and Mohammed Ahmed each took two wickets of their own, while Faham took one as well. Japan’s batsmen had no answer to the relentless pressure from Pakistan’s bowlers, as they failed to build any significant partnerships.
This dominant victory secures Pakistan’s top spot in Group A, advancing them to the semifinals. They will now face Bangladesh U19 in a crucial match on December 6 in Dubai. Pakistan’s all-around performance, especially with the bat and ball, highlights their strong form as they look to continue their winning ways in the tournament.
