Pak vs SA: Saim Ayub suffers injury, Proteas down three at lunch

CAPE TOWN: South Africa won the toss and chose to bat first on Friday, hoping to complete their whitewash of Pakistan after they won the first test of the two match series earlier.

SAIM AYUB INJURED

Saim Ayub was injured in the seventh over after Ryan Rickelton hit a delivery from Mohammad Abbas. Ayub attempted to act as the relay fielder after Aamir Jamal stopped the ball from reaching the boundary at deep third. However, Ayub would lose balance, suffering a fall which injured his ankle. Physio came out to assess the situation and Ayub was taken off the field.

Aiden Markram had an early scare, as Mohammad Abbas thought his delivery would have hit the wickets were it not for the South African’s pads. The umpire didn’t seem to agree, but Pakistan decided it was woreth using a review on the chance they could gain some early momentum. The review showed that the delivery would have just clipped the top of off stump, meaning Markram survived but Pakistan also got to keep their review.

Markram went on to make 17 runs, but was sent off in the 16th over by Khurram Shahzad on a delivery that got a thick under-edge before wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan took the catch. Wiaan Mukder came in to replace the Proteas’ opener, but he was sent off soon after in the 21st over after only scoring five runs. It was Mohammad Abbas picking up his first wicket of the match, as his delivery got an outside edge and Rizwan got his second catch of the innings.

Agha Salman then got himself a wicket, sending off Tristan Stubbs for a duck on the sixth delivery the South African faced. Another edge and another catch later, and Pakistan found themsleves in a good posiotion, with the Proteas down three at lunch with 72 runs made.

Ryan Rickelton has been leading the charge for the Proteas, as the batter brought up a half century right before the break, hitting seven fours along the way.

South Africa currently stand at 72 runs for three after 22.5 overs.
