PCB announces ‘Hall of Fame’ cricketers for 2024

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced four new inductees to the Hall of Fame. Inzamam-ul-Haq, Misbah-ul-Haq, Mushtaq Mohammad and Saeed Anwar are the latest inductees, the PCB announced on Friday.
PCB inducts two former crickets to the Hall of Fame every year. This time, however, four names have been included to make up for no inductions in 2023. The inductees are chosen by an 11-member independent panel.

The panel includes PCB Hall of Famers, women international cricketers and journalists. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said about the new inductees, “Their talent, charisma and unwavering commitment have made them true ambassadors of cricket and the PCB takes immense pride in honouring their accomplishments”.
“I hope that our aspiring cricketers will look up to these icons and strive to follow in their footsteps, carrying forward their legacy and continuing to strengthen Pakistan’s position as a cricketing powerhouse,” he said.
Previously, Pakistan’s cricket greats Abdul Qadir, AH Kardar, Fazal Mahmood, Hanif Mohammad, Imran Khan, Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Younis Khan and Zaheer Abbas have been inducted in the Hall of Fame.
PCB released a statement on Friday, saying that the four names went through an independent and transparent voting process. Cricket legends including Wasim Akram, Zaheer Abbas, former captain Azhar Ali, Bismah Maroof, Nain Abidi, Majid Bhatti, Mohi Shah, Mohammad Yaqoob, Nauman Niaz, Sawera Pasha and Zahid Maqsood participated in the voting process.
The four stalwarts will be formally inducted into the PCB Hall of Fame during the course of the year. They will also be presented with commemorative caps and specially-designed plaques.
FOUR NEW INDUCTEES
Inzamam-ul-Haq played international cricket from 1991 to 2007. He was also part of the 1992 team tht won the World Cup.
Misbah-ul-Haq was part of the Pakistan’s national cricket team from 2001 to 2017. He brought the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup to Pakistan in 2009. It was also under his leadership that Pakistan reached the No.1 spot in the ICC Test Team Rankings in 2016.
Mushtaq Mohammad’s association with Pakistan cricket goes farther back than all others inducted. He was part of the national team from 1959 to 1979. PCB shared that it was Mushtaq Mohammad who captained the team to its first-ever Test win in Australia in 1977. He was also part of the inaugural ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 1975 in England, and later coached Pakistan to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 1999 final.

Saeed Anwar represented Pakistan from 1989 to 2003. His career while devoid of a World Cup victory, still boasts of 31 centuries and 68 half-centuries. Three of these centuries and three half-centuries were amassed in the 1996, 1999 and 2003 World Cups.
