PCB announces mentors’ pay packages for ‘Champions ODI Cup’

LAHORE: On August 26, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officially announced the appointment of five legendary cricketers as mentors for the upcoming Champions ODI Cup. Now the perks and packages of these mentors has hit the news.

Former captains Misbah-ul-Haq, Sarfraz Ahmed, and Waqar Younis, along with seasoned players Saqlain Mushtaq and Shoaib Malik are PCB’s chosen mentors for the tournament, ‘Champions ODI Cup’ which is set to kick off on September 11, 2024 as part of the Men’s Domestic Cricket Season 2024-25.

The mentors will contribute their vast experience and knowledge to the tournament. These appointments come at a time when Pakistani cricket is looking at a robust domestic calendar, with key events like the National T20 Cup, Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, President’s Trophy, President’s Cup, and the HBL Pakistan Super League 2025.

The five mentors have been taken on board for three years, on contractual basis, after a thorough and transparent selection process. Each mentor is set to receive Rs 5 million annually, amounting to a total of Rs 15 million over the duration of their contracts.

Their primary responsibility will be to identify and nurture emerging talent, thereby strengthening the future prospects of the national team.

Media reports say that the PCB is particularly keen on Saqlain Mushtaq’s participation, given the current scarcity of quality spinners in the country. His expertise is expected to play a vital role in addressing this issue.

Each team in the Champions Cup will be supported by a 10-member staff, which will include a head coach, assistant coach, manager, and other key personnel.
