LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is gearing up for the election of its new chairman, with a special meeting of the PCB Governing Board set for tomorrow at 2:00 PM.
The vacancy for the chairman’s post arose when former PCB head, Zaka Ashraf, resigned on Jan. 19, just before his latest three-month extension as interim chairman expired.
Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi has emerged as a strong contender for the chairman’s position after being nominated as a member of the BoG by the PCB’s patron last week.
The election process will be overseen by Election Commissioner Shah Khawar, with the special meeting to take place at the esteemed National Cricket Academy, providing a fitting backdrop for this significant event in Pakistani cricket administration.
The Governing Board, comprising representatives from various regions and organizations, will play a pivotal role in the decision-making process, ensuring diverse and comprehensive representation.

Mohsin Naqvi’s candidacy gains momentum due to his prominent role as the caretaker chief minister of Punjab, adding weight to his bid for the PCB Chairman position.
The Governing Board includes representatives from the Patron, Azad Jammu Kashmir, Dera Murad Jamali, Larkana, Bahawalpur, Sui Northern Gas, Ghani Glass, State Bank, and PTV, reflecting the inclusivity of the election process.
In a unique aspect, the Secretary of the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination or another designated representative will participate as a non-voting member, enhancing transparency and accountability.
If a new chairman is elected, it will mark the end of over a year without a formally elected PCB chairman. Ashraf served as interim chairman from July 2023, with his mandate extended for three months in November before ultimately resigning.
