MELBOURNE: Peter Lalor, a prominent cricket journalist from Australia, was let go by “SEN Radio” during the ongoing Test series between Sri Lanka and Australia.

Peter Lalor has contributed to major media platforms including ‘The Australian’ and ‘Channel Seven’. He was reportedly informed about his termination by the SEN Radio’s CEO, Greg Hutchison, on the last day of the first Test in Galle, Sri Lanka.
The decision was promoted by complaints regarding Lalor’s online activities, which some people labelled as ‘anti-Semitic’.
In a statement, Peter Lalor expressed his strong disagreement with the claims, noting that he was told his posts had made some listeners ‘uncomfortable’.
In his account, the journalist described discussions with SEN executives, during which he was told that his retweets regarding Gaza were seen as lacking ‘balance’ and sensitivity. He was questioned about whether he considered the feelings of Jewish people in Melbourne who felt ‘unsafe’ due to his commentary.
The journalist stressed his empathy for all communities affected by the ongoing conflict, stating “I have friends who are scared and have conveyed their fears to me”.
SEN confirmed the decision to part ways with Lalor, citing ‘differencing perspectives’ on the implications of his social media commentary within the Australian public.
The situation surrounding Lalor’s dismissal caused outrage, with several public figures, including Australian cricketer, Usman Khawaja, publicly voiced his support for Lalor.

The cricketer stated that standing up for the people of Gaza should not be misconstrued as anti-Semitism, highlighting the distinction between critiquing the Israeli government and expressing sentiments towards Jewish communities.
