PSL X final showdown: Qalandars take on Gladiators in Lahore tonight


PSL X final

LAHORE: The biggest clash of the PSL X tournament, the final showdown, will see Lahore Qalandars and Quetta Gladiators battling for the trophy today at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar has directed to provide full security to domestic and foreign players, officials, and cricket fans.

More than 8,000 police officers and personnel will perform security duties during the match, Punjab Police spokesperson said on Sunday. Punjab IGP has directed Dolphin Squad, Police Response Unit, and Elite Force to patrol the routes of the teams, around the stadium effectively.

The routes of the teams, stadiums, and important places including the residence will also be monitored with CCTV cameras at all times. Police snipers will be deployed on the high-rise buildings around the stadium, Punjab IGP said.

Quetta Gladiators defeated Islamabad United by 30 runs in the first play-off of PSL X, on May 21, securing their position as the finalists. Lahore Qalandars had to battle Karachi Kings on May 22 and Islamabad United on May 23 in the two eliminators to pave their way for the finals. Qalandars successfully chased Kings’ score in the 19th over, and restrained United to 107 runs winning by a margin of 95 runs.

Today Shaheen Shah Afridi will bring his Qalandars and Saud Shakeel will come with his Gladiators to battle for the tournament trophy. So far, Qalandars have won the home tournament twice, and is the only team to have defended its champions title. Gladiators have one PSL trophy to their name so far.

The match takes place at 7:30 PM, May 25.
