Rickelton and Verreynne dominate Pakistan on day 2 of final test

Rickelton

CAPE TOWN: After a treacherous day 1 for Pakistan, in which they not only were subject to Ryan Rickelton’s fantastic knock of 176 runs, but also suffered the departure of Saim Ayub who injured his ankle, day 2 began on a positive note.

Mohammad Abbas dismissed David Bedingham in his second over of the day. The Proteas’ batter was caught behind after Abbas’ delivery brushed against the edge of Bedingham’s bat. The dismissal earned Mohammad Rizwan his fifth catch of the game.

Nine overs later, South Africa were in a better mood. Ryan Rickelton had made his maiden double century. And Kyle Verreynne was in the early stages of another dominant knock for the Proteas.

Verreynne hit a slew of boundaries in the following overs, until he brought up his fifty on the last ball of the 102nd over. He gave his compatriots a scare when he did, edging the ball just past the keeper to bring up the milestone.

The 27-year-old wicket-keeper batter kicked it into another gear in the over before lunch, slamming back to back sixes, topped off with a four for extra style points. South Africa headed into the break in complete control of the match.

Rickelton and Verreynne continued to dominate when the game resumed, with the latter of the two making his fourth test century in the 120th over.

Verreynne was then caught out by Aamer Jamal on a delivery from Agha Salman in the very next over.
