RAWALPINDI: Rehan Ahmed and Jack Leach were the last two wickets to fall for England as their first innings came to an end on Thursday after the tea break.
Sajid Khan and Noman Ali were once again the stars of Pakistan’s bowling, taking five and three wickets respectively.
SAJID KHAN
Sajid Khan has been the star off the show so far, taking six wickets in England’s first innings, beginning with Ollie Pope in the 19th over. The delivery hit the front pad and the wicket was given by the umpire. Pope reviewed, but to his dismay ball tracking showed that the leg stump would have been taken out. It was the third time in a row that Sajid took out Pope, who has been struggling in the series so far. His highest score was 29 in England’s first innings of the second test.
Joe Root, England’s leading test run scorer would be dismissed in the 21st over with another lbw. Ball tracking revealed it would be the middle stump that would have been in trouble if not for Root’s pads. He was dismissed for only five runs.
And so was Harry Brook, as Sajid’s delivery finally made direct contact with the stump’s following a couple failed sweep attempts from the English batter. Another vital wicket, as Brook has seen a fair amount of success against Pakistan, including a triple century in the first test.
Sajid would send off England skipper Ben Stokes next, who only managed to make 12 runs off 22 deliveries. An incredible catch from Salman Agha sent off the England camptain before he could get going.
Rehan Ahmed would be bowled in the 67th over, giving Sajid his second 5-fer this series after taking nine wickets last test, and his third overall.
Sajid would pick up one more wicket soon after to end the innings, in the 69th over. Jack Leach would be dismissed after he charged the pitch looking to send the ball high and deep. However, the ball made it past him and Rizwan did the rest. It was Sajid’s second ever six wicket haul, with his first coming in the last test against England.
NOMAN ALI
Noman would begin by dismissing Zac Crawley in the 14th over. After finding an edge, the ball would be sent high to gully, where Saim Ayub would be waiting to take the catch. Duckett would fall int eh 26th over, after the England batsman had made a half century. He would be sent off after a low bounce delivery hit him on the pad for an lbw.
Noman would end England’s largest partnership after Gus Atkinson hit the ball right back to him. Atkinson and Jamie Smith made 107 runs off 165 deliveries together.
ZAHID MEHMOOD
Smith would be dismissed not long after by Zahid Mehmood, who got the most vital wicket of the game so far. The England wicket keeper made 89 runs, hitting five fours and six sixes in the process before being sent off (previously 91, but a one of his sixes was changed to a four). An eager Smith who was closing in on a century, popped a ball high up in an attempt to hit another boundary. Mohammad Rizwan settled underneath it for the catch.
