Santner dominates as India lose six in first session on Friday

Santner

PUNE: Virat Kohli crumbled on Friday as India lost six wickets in the first session against New Zealand, behind an incredible spell from Santner.

After a good start from Yashavi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill, each hitting a few boundaries, Mitchell Santner struck in the 22nd over, getting his first wicket of the innings. After the delivery hit Gill’s pads, the lbw was given immediately and India didn’t bother wasting a review.

In Santner’s very next over, he would dismiss Virat Kohli, stunning the crowd. The Indian star only faced nine deliveries, making only one run before being dismissed. The Indian batsman missed a full toss that crashed into the stumps.

A few overs later, Jaiswal would be dismissed after Glenn Phillips found the outside edge of the bat, sending the ball to slip where Santner took a great catch.

In the 31st over, Phillips would get his second wicket, sending off Rishabh Pant after the Indian wicket keeper missed the ball on its way to colliding with the stumps.

India’s woes weren’t over yet, as Santner picked up his third wicket, sending off Sarfaraz Khan who made 11 runs off the 24 deliveries he faced. The shot by Sarfaraz didn’t clear mid-off completely, and William O’Rourke took the catch.

Santner wasn’t done yet, picking up his fourth wicket a couple overs later, dismissing Ravichandran Ashwin with an lbw that India didn’t bother to review.

India stand at 107 for 7, trailing by 152 runs.
