“July 17, 2014, the day of my presentation at Real Madrid, the day that changed my life. My life as a footballer, but above all as a person,” Kroos began his announcement.

“It was the beginning of a new life at the greatest club in the world. Today, after 10 years, at the end of the season, this life comes to an end. I will never forget this successful and exciting decade!”

Kroos extended his gratitude to President Florentino Perez, the club, and all those who welcomed him warmly and placed their trust in him. He particularly thanked the madridistas for their unwavering love and support from his first day to his last.

“At the same time, this decision means that my career as an active footballer will end this summer after the European Championship. As I have always said, Real Madrid is and will be my last club.”
