LAHORE: The West Indies successfully completed their chase, making 228 runs to beat Bangladesh by three wickets in the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier.
Aaliyah Alleyne led the bowling attack for the West Indies after Bangladesh chose to bat first. She had a major breakthrough for the West Indies as she caught her own delivery in the 28th over to dismiss Farqana Hoque, ending a 118 run partnership.
A couple balls later, Alleyne bowled the other half of that first wicket stand, Sharmin Akhter, who scored a game high 67 runs off 79 deliveries. She then bowled Bangladesh skipper Nigar Sultana in the 32nd over. Alleyne took her final wicket in the final over, dismissing Nahida Akter, who was caught out by Chinelle Henry.

Both Afy Fletcher and West Indies skipper Hayley Matthews took two wickets each, and Henry had one herself. Bangladesh managed to make 227 runs in 50 overs, losing nine wickets along the way.
The West Indies had a more balanced batting attack than their opponents, finding runs from various sources, including 31 off 39 from opener Qiana Joseph. Stephanie Taylor and Matthews added 36 and 33 respectfully. The biggest contribution came from Henry, who added 51 runs off 48 deliveries. It was just the fourth half century of her ODI career.
The West Indies reached their target of 228 in 46 overs, winning their second match of the qualifiers. Despite the victory, they will still need to beat Thailand to have a chance at qualifying for the World Cup. And even then, it will likely come down to net run rate to determine if they make it. Currently, they sit at fourth.
