WEB DESK: Google has unveiled the Developer Preview of Android 15 a few weeks back, with expectations for its stable release in the third quarter of this year.
As experts explore the initial beta releases of Android 15, new features are coming to light each week.
Recent findings suggest that Android 15 may automatically enable Bluetooth shortly after it’s manually turned off.
A report from Android Authority highlights references to a feature known as Bluetooth Auto-On. Essentially, Android 15 has the capability to activate Bluetooth autonomously after a certain period.
Upon attempting to disable Bluetooth, users may encounter a prompt stating, “Features such as Quick Share, Find My Device, and device location utilise Bluetooth.”
This adjustment aims to enhance the functionality of Google’s upcoming Find My Device service.
Scheduled for launch next week, Google’s Find My Device empowers users to locate lost or stolen devices. This network, comprising billions of Android devices, heavily relies on Bluetooth.
Devices within this network communicate via Bluetooth, forming an extensive mesh network that facilitates the tracking of lost devices, akin to Samsung Find on Galaxy devices.
It’s worth noting that all data within this network is fully encrypted, safeguarding against unauthorised tracking.
Tracking capabilities are exclusive to the device owner’s Google account, with only system apps possessing the authority to manage Bluetooth activation.
The efficacy of the Find My Device network could diminish if users routinely disable Bluetooth on their Android devices. Consequently, Google may be contemplating adjustments to how Bluetooth toggling functions on Android devices.
In Android 14 QPR2, users occasionally encounter a dialog indicating “automatically turn on again tomorrow” upon disabling Bluetooth, suggesting a potential progression towards more nuanced control in Android 15, perhaps allowing Bluetooth to be temporarily paused rather than fully disabled when toggled off.
Despite discussions surrounding the Bluetooth Auto-On feature, it has yet to be implemented in any version of Android 14 or Android 15 released by Google. Therefore, it may be some time before such changes take effect.
Additionally, Android smartphone manufacturers may have the flexibility to modify this behavior or offer alternative options for users seeking to maintain Bluetooth disabled, either due to privacy concerns or to conserve battery life.
