ISLAMABAD: The National Telecom and Information Technology Security Board (NTITSB) issued an advisory regarding the escalating threat of cyberattacks targeting users nationwide.
The warning follows a spike in incidents where hackers allegedly aimed to compromise personal data, raising concerns about the security of digital interactions.

The advisory specifically detailed vulnerabilities associated with the use of certain application, particularly those employing virtual private networks (VPNs) and artificial intelligence (AI).
Cybercriminals are reportedly utilising advanced tactics to infiltrate devices, often deploying malicious code disguised as legitimate software. This can result in unauthorised access to sensitive information, particularly on social media platforms and banking information.
In response to such threats, the NTITSB identified 16 apps that users are advised to temporarily. This includes widely used apps that may have security flaws or have been compromised.
Users are encouraged to explore alternative applications that provide similar services but with strong security measures in place.
The advisory also talked about the importance of utilising secure applications and websites. Users were urged to verify the security protocols of the platforms they engage with, ensuring they prioritise user privacy and data protection.
The NTITSB recommended limiting app access to mobile device location and messaging services to reduce the amount of personal information that could be exploited by potentially harmful applications.
Regular updates to applications was also stressed in the advisory. Keeping software up to date is considered important, as updates often include security patches that address known vulnerabilities.
