WEB DESK: Apple has significantly increased its iPhone 16 production to meet anticipated high demand, prompting Foxconn to hire an additional 50,000 workers within a two-week period, according to BusinessKorea.

In response to strong sales forecasts, Apple has raised its production target for this year by 10 per cent, aiming to produce a total of 90 million iPhone 16 units.

To achieve this, Apple has ramped up efforts with its major manufacturing partner, Foxconn, at its Zhengzhou facility in China. This factory, which is the largest iPhone production site globally, is now operating at full capacity with the recent addition of 50,000 new employees.

Foxconn’s Zhengzhou plant is integral to Apple’s global supply chain, accounting for about 80 per cent of the company’s iPhone output. With the peak production season running from August through December, Foxconn’s recent recruitment surge is critical to meeting the heightened production demands.

To attract the necessary workforce, Foxconn has substantially increased wages and bonuses. As of August, the company has raised hourly wages to up to 25 yuan and boosted the hiring bonus from 6,000 yuan to 7,500 yuan.

Additionally, Apple is set to expand its production footprint by manufacturing a broader range of iPhone models in India, starting with the iPhone 16 series. The new devices are anticipated to be launched next month.
