Five reasons why the iPhone 17 could be worth the wait

A look at the iPhone 17 features

WEB DESK: Apple’s iPhone development extends several years into the future, with the company frequently working with suppliers on multiple iPhone models simultaneously.

This extensive collaboration can sometimes lead to early leaks about upcoming features.

The iPhone 17 series is no exception, and we already have a glimpse of what Apple’s 2025 smartphone lineup might offer.

If you’re considering skipping the iPhone 16 or are simply curious about what’s next, here are five anticipated features of the upcoming iPhone 17 series, expected to launch in September 2025.

New display sizes

Following the trend of enlarging display sizes seen in this year’s iPhone 16 series, Apple is expected to introduce larger screens for the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Plus. The standard iPhone 17 is projected to feature a 6.27-inch display, while the iPhone 17 Plus might sport entirely new dimensions, offering an enhanced viewing experience.

Under-display Face ID

The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are set to debut with groundbreaking under-display Face ID technology. This innovation will be subtly indicated by a circular cutout for the front-facing camera.

This feature is anticipated to be the final iteration to include such a cutout, with Apple planning to integrate under-display cameras in its 2027 models to achieve a truly seamless screen design.

48MP telephoto lens

The iPhone 17 Pro Max is anticipated to feature an upgraded 48-megapixel telephoto lens. This enhancement will be tailored for compatibility with Apple’s Vision Pro headset and will result in the first iPhone with a rear camera system composed entirely of 48-megapixel lenses, significantly improving photographic detail and quality.

120Hz ProMotion and Always-on Display

In 2025, Apple aims to extend its ProMotion technology to the standard iPhone models, enabling a 120Hz refresh rate for smoother visuals. According to reports, the iPhone 17 will also support an always-on display feature, allowing the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Plus to show the Lock Screen’s clock, widgets, notifications, and wallpaper even when the device is idle.

Apple-designed Wi-Fi 7 chip

The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are expected to be the first models equipped with Apple’s proprietary Wi-Fi 7 chip.

This chip will support simultaneous data transfer over 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz bands, promising faster speeds, lower latency, and more reliable connectivity. This development also marks a step towards reducing Apple’s reliance on external suppliers such as Broadcom.

With these promising advancements, the iPhone 17 series is poised to offer cutting-edge features that could make it worth the wait.
