Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro expected to feature under-screen Face ID in 2026

iPhone 18 Pro leaks

CALIFORNIA: Apple is reportedly planning a major redesign for its 2026 iPhone 18 Pro lineup, which could feature Face ID sensors hidden beneath the display—eliminating the need for the familiar pill-shaped cutout.

Ross Young, vice president at Counterpoint Research and a reliable source for display technology leaks, said on social media that OTI Lumionics, a company specialising in display materials, expects smartphones with under-display Face ID to hit the market in 2026.

The company’s CEO, Michael Helander, shared the timeline during a presentation at the SID Business Conference.

Young said the remarks likely point to Apple introducing the technology in its iPhone 18 Pro models, which are expected to launch in September 2026.

Earlier this month, The Information also reported similar plans for the iPhone 18 Pro, citing sources familiar with Apple’s development. According to the report, Apple aims to embed Face ID sensors beneath the screen while keeping only a small hole in the top-left corner for the front-facing camera.

This would allow Apple to do away with the current pill-shaped cutout, though it remains unclear whether this change would mark the end of the Dynamic Island interface introduced in the iPhone 14 Pro. Apple has not officially confirmed any details regarding the iPhone 18 Pro.
