ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a public warning regarding a wave of fraudulent WhatsApp messages falsely using the app’s official logo to mislead users.

According to the PTA, these fake messages, circulated through both local and international numbers, contain suspicious links and deceptive instructions urging users to close their WhatsApp accounts or verify their identity via non-official methods.

Some messages even ask users to click on links that may compromise their personal data or lead to account hacking.

“These messages are not from WhatsApp,” clarified the PTA, emphasizing that the platform does not send such requests. The Authority has confirmed that the messages violate WhatsApp’s policies and pose serious digital security threats.

The PTA has urged the public to stay alert and avoid clicking on any suspicious links. It recommends that users immediately block any unknown or suspicious numbers sending such content. To enhance account safety, the PTA also advises enabling two-step verification within the WhatsApp app.

“The public must remain vigilant to protect themselves from data theft and online scams,” PTA said. The authority has also released guidelines for reporting suspicious messages and encourages users to consult the WhatsApp Help Center for accurate information.

To ensure your digital safety, immediately block such contacts and report them to WhatsApp by following the steps provided below:
