WEB DESK: Xiaomi has reportedly wrapped up development on HyperOS 2 and is now turning its attention to the next big release: HyperOS 3, which will be based on Android 16.
While HyperOS 2 originally launched as Xiaomi’s Android 15-based skin, the company did release a recent 2.3 update that brought Android 16 to a limited number of smartphones. However, no further major updates are expected under the HyperOS 2 name. Instead, HyperOS 3 is expected to introduce a range of improvements when it arrives.
Xiaomi has not announced a firm release date for the stable version of HyperOS 3, but testing is expected to begin later this year. The update is likely to launch alongside the Xiaomi 16 series and is rumoured to feature a redesigned interface, smoother animations, and improved overall performance.
In a related move, Xiaomi has updated its end-of-life (EOL) list, adding nine devices that will no longer receive official software updates after September 2025. These phones will get their final security patch before being retired. The affected Mi phone models include:
- Redmi A1
- Redmi A1+
- Redmi 11 Prime 4G
- Poco C50
- Poco M5
- Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE
- Xiaomi 11 Lite LE
- Xiaomi 11T
- Xiaomi 11T Pro
Most of these devices did not receive the HyperOS 2 update and will not be eligible for HyperOS 3 either.
As for what users can expect from HyperOS 3, early reports suggest Xiaomi is aiming for a more polished and responsive user experience.
The system is expected to feature better performance, smoother transitions, and enhanced visual effects, marking a noticeable step up from the current version.
