DHAKA: Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajid has resigned from her position following ultimatum by army.
Earlier, Sheikh Hasina was moved to a safe haven away from her official residence, according to Reuters. The decision to relocate the Prime Minister follows increasing tensions and growing unrest within the country.
Reportedly, she has been moved to India. Former PM Hasina Wajid was not allowed to record her speech prior to her departure.
Bangladesh protest total death toll at least 300: police, doctors
The Bangladeshi army had issued a 45-minute ultimatum to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajid to resign from her post. Indian media outlets have reported that the military’s stern demand has further escalated the already volatile situation.
According to latest reports, hundreds of thousands of people have entered Sheikh Hasina Wajid’s residence in Dhaka.
