FBI identifies Thomas Matthew Crooks as ‘subject involved’ in Trump rally shooting

WASHINGTON: The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has identified 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks as the “subject involved” in the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, it said in a statement on Sunday.
Crooks, who was from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, was a registered Republican, according to the state’s voter records.

Earlier, FBI called the shooting an assassination attempt. FBI is looking into “an assassination attempt” against former US President Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, authorities said in a news conference that ended just after midnight on Sunday (July 14).
Trump was injured when he was shot in the ear during a Saturday (July 13) campaign rally. The shooter was dead, one rally attendee was killed and two other spectators were injured, said George Bivens, deputy commissioner of operations for the Pennsylvania State Police.
Various world leaders expressed shock at the incident, denounced political violence and wished Trump a quick recovery.
A spokesperson for United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the shooting and called it an “act of political violence.” Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said, “We must stand firm against any form of violence that challenges democracy.”
Biden condemns political violence after incident at Trump rally
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said he was “appalled by the shocking scenes” at the rally. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the shooting was “concerning and confronting,” while Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said it left him “sickened.”
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his tweet, extended his sympathies and best wishes to Donald Trump’s family during this difficult time. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Trump a friend and wished him a speedy recovery.
