CAIRO: A delegation from Hamas arrived in Cairo, Egypt, on Wednesday to engage in discussions regarding the implementation of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

The talks are expected to involve mediators from different countries aiming to stabalise the region following recent escalations.

Saudi and French foreign ministers also convened in Paris to explore avenues for advancing peace and security in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, the Jordanian King Abdullah also held a telephone conversation with French President, Emmanuel Macron, during which they discussed the precarious situation in the occupied-West Bank.

The leaders expressed concerns over the recent development and the potential implications for regional stability. Hamas recently refused to proceed further with the ceasefire agreement that was finalised this January following 15 months of bloodbath by Israel occupying forces in Gaza.

In exchange for return of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners, Hamas agreed to return Israeli hostages that has started off the conflict in October 2023.

Recently, US President Donald Trump shocked the world with his declaration of ethnically cleansing Gaza of its indigenous inhabitants and gentrifying the area. The mercurial president even threatened military action if he had to.

Following his declaration, Egypt and Jordan, whom Trump expected to take in the displaced Gazan Palestinians, reached an agreement on the reconstruction of Gaza without displacing the locals.

The agreement emphasised that the rebuilding efforts of the decimated enclave (courtesy Israeli bombardment) should not involve the expulsion of Palestinians. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and the King Abdullah reiterated their commitment to this principle during a recent phone call.

Both leaders also expressed a desire to collaborate with the US President to foster ‘peace’ in the Middle East.
