NEW DELHI: Indian opposition parties came together at a rally in New Delhi on Sunday (March 31) to protest against the arrest of a prominent Modi critic weeks before a national election.
In a show of unity, opposition leaders held hands during the gathering as supporters displayed placards with images of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal who was arrested on March 21 for alleged graft over the granting liquor licenses.

Kejriwal is a staunch Modi critic, anti-corruption crusader and high-profile leader of the 27-member “INDIA” opposition bloc.
Congress party leader Rahul Gandhi told the rally that if Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wins the election and changes the constitution, “the whole country will be on fire”.
Addressing the crowd, Kejriwal’s wife, Sunita Kejriwal, said “fascism will not work” in India.
Modi is widely expected to win a third straight term during April’s general election, according to opinion polls.
Leader of opposition Congress Party, Rahul Gandhi said, “They (BJP) say they will be winning 400 seats in this election, but without EVMs (electronic voting machines), match-fixing, social media, putting on pressure and buying the press, they cannot even cross 180 seats.”

President of regional Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Party, Farooq Abdullah said, “All the leaders who have been arrested, including (Arvind) Kejriwal, (Hemant) Soren and Sanjay (Singh), would be free when all of you hold onto the constitution. At the time of elections, you have to vote and press the button that removes this government and brings rule of the people.”
Wife of arrested Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Sunita Kejriwal said, “This fascism will not work in India. We will fight and we will win.”
