WEB DESK: As news of Israel’s alleged air strike on Iranian soil reverberates across the globe, countries are issuing statements urging for restraint and de-escalation in the Middle East crisis.

France, through Deputy Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, emphasised the need for de-escalation and called upon all parties to exercise restraint in the region. Oman joined the chorus of condemnation, decrying Israel’s repeated military actions in the area.

Egypt echoed similar sentiments, expressing deep concern over the potential escalation of hostilities between Israel and Iran following the reported attack.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz echoed the call for de-escalation, stressing the importance of dialogue with allies to defuse tensions.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) urged utmost restraint to prevent further escalation, while Jordan’s Foreign Minister Safadi warned against the danger of regional escalation, calling for an end to Israeli-Iranian retaliations.

The Group of Seven (G7) major powers pledged to continue efforts to prevent the conflict from worsening, reaffirming their commitment to stability in the region.

Japan expressed deep concern over the situation and vowed to exert diplomatic efforts to prevent further deterioration, while China opposed any actions that could escalate tensions in the Middle East.

EU Commission President calls on Israel, Iran to refrain from escalation

Meanwhile, Israel’s Hard-Right Security Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, dismissed international concerns with a terse “Feeble!” on social media.

It is notable that in the recent past, the Western states, using Turkey as a mediator, conveyed messages to Iran urging de-escalation before the reported Israeli attack. Turkey has confirmed contacts with both Iran and the United States.
