LONDON: In a recent interview with Piers Morgan on “Piers Morgan Uncensored”, Jeremy Corbyn, the former leader of the UK Labour Party, declined to explicitly label Hamas as a terrorist group.
This refusal came despite repeated questioning from Morgan. During the interview, Corbyn focused on advocating for a ceasefire and condemned the loss of life in the conflict, but avoided directly answering Morgan’s persistent inquiries about Hamas’s designation.
Corbyn’s stance on Hamas has been a point of contention in the past. He has been criticized for his handling of antisemitism within the Labour Party and was suspended in 2020 following a report alleging the party’s failure to address antisemitism complaints adequately under his leadership. The report accused his office of breaking equality laws in its handling of these issues.

The interview followed Corbyn’s attendance at a pro-Palestinian rally, where he spoke against violence and stressed the peaceful nature of the protest, despite reports of antisemitic slogans and signs at the event. He emphasized the need for legal action against any illegal displays of antisemitism.
Hamas, the governing authority in Gaza, is officially designated as a terrorist organization by the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union. This designation is based on what they call the group’s history of violence and attacks against civilian targets.
