PENNSYLVANIA: Amidst false claims of rising crime rates, Trump voiced his suggestion on how to deal with criminal activity at a rally on Sunday. And it came straight from “The Purge”, a horror movie.
THE PURGE
“One rough hour. And I mean real rough” said Trump, addressing rally attendees on the topic of crime in the country. What Trump is advocating for is identical to the plot of “The Purge”, a dystopian horror movie in which all crime, including murder, is legal for 12 hours.
“The word will get out and it will end immediately,” Trump said, voicing his demented opinion to a cheering crowd.
“Crime is at a level like we’ve never seen. It’s rampant, it rising,” said Trump a few minutes earlier, calling back to the last presidential debate in early September. He then criticised American journalist and anchor, David Muir, who was a moderator at the debate, for correcting him by stating that the crime rate has gone down.

BASELESS LIES OF MIGRANT CRIME
“Without looking at numbers is there anybody in this room that thinks crime has gone down?” asked Trump. “It’s gone through the roof,” he said, answering himself with a baseless lie, before continuing his tried and true, go to, attack on migrants.
It’s “largely due to migrant crime,” the former United States president said, despite all research proving the accusation is baseless.
“There is no evidence that undocumented immigrants commit violent crimes at higher rates than US citizens,” wrote The Washington Post. The Trump Campaign has been distorting figures from Homeland Security on undocumented immigrants.

PROMOTING POLICE BRUTALITY
“We have to let the police do their job, and if they have to be extraordinarily rough,” said Trump, seemingly about to fight back against claims of police brutality before the roaring crowd cut him off.
“If you do anything, you’re going to lose your pension, your family, your house, your car,” he said, referencing the police and framing them as victims of injustice.
In June of this year, 13-year-old refugee Nyah Mway was shot dead by a police officer, after he was stopped for jaywalking.
Police Brutality in the US has not been dealt with. The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act which was introduced in 2021 has repeatedly failed to move forward. The act was created to stop aggressive law enforcement tactics, misconduct, and racial bias.

After Congress failed to pass the legislation, an executive order from President Joe Biden led to the creation of a new national misconduct database, which requires federal law enforcement agencies to investigate deaths of those in custody and the use of deadly force generally.
