Russia seizes two Donetsk settlements; Ukraine reports grim frontlines

MOSCOW/KIEV: Russia said on Sunday its forces had seized the two settlements of Ptyche and Vyimka in the Donetsk region and were pushing deeper into Ukraine’s defense lines, while Ukraine said that nearly 100 battles had taken place in the frontline areas over the past 24 hours and the situation remains grim.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that over the past 24 hours, its units had attacked Ukrainian facilities for assembling and storing drones, and repelled multiple Ukrainian offensives and launched counterattacks in the directions of Kharkiv, Avdiivka, Donetsk, Zaporizhia, and Kherson. Russian air defense forces shot down a total of 171 Ukrainian drones on the same day.

The ministry said that over the past 24 hours, the Russian army killed and wounded 360 Ukrainian soldiers in western Russia’s Kursk region, and destroyed 23 armored vehicles of various types belonging to the Ukrainian army, including two Poland-made AHS Krab self-propelled tracked gun-howitzers.
Meanwhile, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported that as of Sunday afternoon, 91 fierce battles occurred in the frontline areas over the past 24 hours, and Ukrainian forces are taking all necessary measures to contain the Russian offensive.
Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi wrote on social media on Sunday that the situation is quite grim in the directions of Russia’s main offensive, and the Ukraine army will adjust its battlefield decisions according to the changes of the situation.
He pointed out that despite Russia’s superiority in the number of weapons and armed personnel, Ukraine forces’ perseverance has inflicted heavy losses on the Russian army.
Ukraine launches mass drone attacks on Russia
In addition, Vyacheslav Gladkov, governor of southwestern Russia’s Belgorod Oblast, said that Russian air defense forces shot down a number of aerial targets over the region on Sunday, and preliminary statistics showed that nine people were injured in the Ukrainian air raids.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky posted on social media on Sunday that Russia launched missiles on the country’s second largest city Kharkiv on the same day, causing severe damage to infrastructure facilities and injuring 41 people so far.
