Suspect in killing of Paris tourist pledged allegiance to ISKP: prosecutor

PARIS: In a the aftermath of the stabbing incident of a tourist in Paris on Saturday near Eiffel Tower, a 26-year-old man with alleged connections to the Islamic State has been apprehended by authorities according to anti-terrorism Prosecutor Jean-Francois Ricard.

“Around 9:30 p.m., Armand Rajabpour-Miyandoab, born in 1997 in Neuilly (near Paris), attacked a group of three people of Filipino origin on the Grenelle quay, at the entrance to the Bir-Hakeim bridge,” he stated while adding that the assailant inflicted hammer blows and stab wounds, resulting in the death of a 23-year-old man and injuring two others.

The suspect, identified as Armand Rajabpour-Miyandoab, fled the scene, harming a British national and a French citizen with the hammer during his escape. He was eventually incapacitated by police using a taser.

Ricard further disclosed, “The perpetrator had recorded a video before committing the act. In this film, speaking in Arabic, he introduced himself as Abu Tala al-Khurasani, which is a reference to the Islamic State terrorist organisation currently operating from Afghanistan. During this video, he pledged allegiance to the Islamic State.”

Two other people, the one who accompanied the deceased victim, remain particularly shocked. They are still under medical surveillance and are not in a state that allowed to interview them at this time.
