Eminem asks Republican to stop rapping his lyrics

IOWA: Eminem’s legal team has issued a letter to Vivek Ramaswamy, an aspiring Republican presidential candidate, urging him to refrain from rapping to Eminem’s songs during his campaign.

The move comes after Ramaswamy performed an impromptu rendition of “Lose Yourself” at the Iowa State Fair over a week ago.

Sent on August 23 by Eminem’s record company, BMI, the letter cites Eminem’s objection to the unauthorized use of his “musical compositions.” The letter warns that any further performance of Eminem’s works by the Vivek 2024 campaign would be considered a material breach of its license agreement with BMI.

Ramaswamy, who aims to challenge Donald Trump for the presumed 2024 Republican nomination, has indicated his compliance with Eminem’s request. A spokesperson for his campaign emphasized that Ramaswamy would respect the artist’s wishes.

In response, Ramaswamy posted on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), making a reference to Eminem’s lyrics and humorously addressing the situation.

The phenomenon of politicians receiving cease and desist letters for unauthorized use of music during their campaigns is not new in American politics. Notably, former President Trump faced similar issues with artists including the Rolling Stones, Queen, Adele, and Pharrell Williams.

Ramaswamy’s campaign is gaining momentum, following a strong showing in a recent Republican debate. The 38-year-old political newcomer positions himself as an outsider embracing the “America First” agenda pioneered by former President Trump.
