Earthquake jolts northern Pakistan early on Friday

WEB DESK: Earthquake tremors were reported early on Friday, from Islamabad, Rawalpindi and other areas.
As per initial reports, earthquake jolts were reported from Swat, Malakand, Lower Dir and adjoining areas. Citizens in Rustam also reported tremors early on Friday. Charsadda and Shabqadar also felt earthquake tremors.
This is the third time in September when an earthquake has hit the upper regions of the country. In the first week of the ongoing month, a strong quake hit Afghanistan and the upper parts of Pakistan, which were felt in KPK, Kashmir, Islamabad and upper Punjab.

The epicenter of the 6.2 magnitude earthquake was in northeastern Afghanistan 32 kilometres northeast of Jalalabad at a depth of 10 kilometres, initial reports of the time had said.
In the second week of this month, another powerful earthquake of magnitude 7.4 struck off Russia’s Far East Kamchatka peninsula, the US Geological Survey (USGS) reported.
The tremor occurred 111 kilometres (69 miles) east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the administrative hub of the Kamchatka region, at a depth of 39.5 kilometres. USGS initially placed the magnitude at 7.5 before revising it downward.
Earlier this week, on Tuesday, an earthquake of 5.0 magnitude struck Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The epicenter of this earthquake was located approximately 20 kilometers from the neighbouring country, Afghanistan, with tremors reported at 4pm Pakistan Standard Time.
As per USGS data, the earthquake on Friday was of Magnitude 4.7, which affected Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Afghanistan. The epicenter of the earthquake was 67 km from Eshkashem in Tajikistan, and the tremors struck at local time 8:17 AM.
